The Old Capitol is Mississippi’s most historic building

Built in 1839, the Greek Revival building served as the setting for major moments in state history—from passage of the 1839 Married Women’s Property Act to Mississippi’s secession from the Union in 1861. Lawmakers also used the site to craft the state constitutions adopted in 1868 and 1890.
