A decade ago, the awarding of an NHL expansion team to Las Vegas opened up the floodgates for the age of major professional sports to begin in Las Vegas. The expansion team that became the Golden Knights was awarded on June 22, 2016, to Bill Foley, marking the first major league sports team to call Southern Nevada home.
